Waxed cotton jackets last a lifetime but cost an arm and a leg! Once you have one you want to keep it forever, but you need to maintain it. It is recommended that you reproof (rewax) the jacket annually and only ever hand wash it in cold water. At Waxtable we offer this service locally.
