What’s on in Whitstable

Located on the North Kent coast Whitstable is a seaside town rich in history and tradition. Whether you are a Whitstable native or a visitor there are a wealth of Whitstable events for everyone. Whitstable is widely known for its native oysters and an annual celebration is held every July to mark their significance to the town with the Whitstable Oyster Festival. Although the festival has been scaled down in recent times it generally focuses on family events that appeal to both locals and visitors alike. During the festival various Whitstable events are hosted throughout different parts of the town all of which are timetabled within the festival programme. These include the landing of the oysters, the oyster eating challenge as well as the ‘mud-tug’; a tug-of-war Whitstable event hosted on the beach at low tide for people who don’t mind getting, well, covered in mud!

Whitstable Castle events

Whitstable Castle is one of Whitstable’s most prominent tourist attractions. This Whitstable landmark provides a beautiful setting for events in Whitstable, the most famous of which is the May Day celebrations. Run by Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions Club, local school children dance around the maypole preceded by traditional Jack-in-the-green parade. The castle hosts a variety of other Whitstable events throughout the year and can be hired privately. Whitstable weddings are a common sight at the castle grounds and provide a memorable setting for the special occasion. Whitstable bowls club are located within the same grounds and its members can be seen competing against other clubs during the warmer months of the year.

Of the many different events in Whitstable on offer, live music is one of the most popular. Live music performance is a common type of result for whats on in Whitstable events. Live musical performances can be discovered most weekends at venues and pubs around the town. Most notably of which are the Duke of Cumberland, The Old Neptune and the New Inn which regularly host live music in Whitstable.

Tip: The Duke of Cumberland hosts some excellent bands and musicians with some fairly big names from time to time. Purchase your tickets well in advance as these type of events in Whitstable sell out quickly!
