About Playhouse Theatre Whitstable
The Playhouse Theatre on Whitstable High Street is a beautifully converted former church and one of the town’s most cherished community venues. Home to The Lindley Players since 1946 — founded by Ralph Lindley from the congregation of All Saints Church — the 182-seat theatre stages a diverse programme throughout the year including drama, farce, pantomime and musical productions.
The Playhouse also hosts visiting productions, tribute nights, live music and National Theatre Live broadcasts, bringing a wide variety of live performance to Whitstable at genuinely affordable ticket prices. Tickets typically start from £7.50, with a £2 discount for members and 10% off for groups of ten or more. The Lindley Players are a registered charity and a proud member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain and the Canterbury Arts Council.
The Lindley Players Youth Group welcomes young performers, and the Little Lindleys caters for younger children — providing a genuine grassroots pathway into performance for the next generation of Whitstable talent. Membership is open to all and includes a £2 discount on tickets, a monthly newsletter, invitations to social events, and the opportunity to be involved in productions on stage or backstage — from acting, directing and stage management to lighting, sound, make-up, costumes, bar staff and box office.
A coffee morning is held every Saturday between 10am and 12 noon — a relaxed way to find out more about the theatre, take a tour and meet the company. The Lindley Room bar is at the heart of the theatre and hosts many of the venue’s social activities. The theatre is also available for hire at competitive rates for both amateur and professional companies.
The box office is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-noon.
