The Whitstable Umbrella Centre - officially Whitstable Umbrella Community Centre, housed in St Mary's Hall on Oxford Street - has been a fixture of town life for over thirty years. From the outside it's an unassuming hall set back slightly from the street; inside, it's one of the busiest community spaces in town, with a remarkable amount packed into a single building. The "umbrella" name is no accident: the centre exists to shelter a wide range of activities, groups and people under one roof, with a particular focus on mental health, wellbeing and social inclusion.
