It’s bright and breezy at this holiday home
If there’s one thing better than living in Whitstable it’s staying in Whitstable. And our Whitstable holiday homes will make staycations in our beautiful town that little bit special. Take the Sea House, for example. True to its name, it borders the refreshing breeze of the estuary seas that cut through Kent with views of the Island of Sheppey – once a smuggler’s bolt hole and named after the wool ( translates as ‘Isle of Sheep’) that dominated the trade in the 18th century.
Find your space
Back inside the property it’s hard to know where to rest your legs such is the level of roominess and space. The living room is an airy treat. It is so vast it can even be divided in two. This luxurious space, clean and refreshed with luxurious touches, is emphasised by French windows that overlook a garden brimming with Moroccan planters.
Sweep onto the lawn for summery evenings with a glass of wine or indulge in lockdown’s most eco-friendly habit during the day – gardening. The interior was treated to extensive renovations in 2020 with Loaf sofas and furniture. The locally-based owner has been keen to source nearby talent with paints and DIY materials from Cromwell Road’s Sargeants and art from The Horsebridge Gallery.
You spin me round
Joining the soothing home-from-home ambience is a huge wood-burning stove in the front living room (operated by gas). You can also listen to tunes from an old school record player complete with records, play board games or cosy down with a throw. Everything you need to snuggle up and chill out is on tap.
At the rear of the ground floor is a very well-equipped, light and spacious kitchen, extending to the dining area with seating for eight hungry people. Here the impressive bi-fold doors open out onto the garden, affording separate areas for space to play, lounge and eat. To the front there is a large Neptune dining table and chairs for more formal dining and to the rear there is a six-person sofa, table and chairs for a more chilled out vibe.
Warm and cosy
Between the living space and the kitchen/dining areas are a downstairs toilet and a utility area with washer/dryer so no need to pack lots of stuff. The entire downstairs floor area is basked in beautiful Amtico flooring and warmed by underfloor heating for when nights get a little chillier.
Its owner has put her heart in the renovation and she shares some of her views on Whitstable:
“ I came here 20 years ago and loved it. It’s a village by the sea. And there are lots of creative people. . .]
‘It’s quieter than places like Margate or Brighton. Plus, you can walk everywhere.’
And tips for local loungers? The owner says:
‘My special places are JoJo’s and The Sportsman as well as Blueprint Coffee and Windy Corner Store.’
And does the cosmopolitan and well-travelled owner ever regret her choice about basing herself in our petite and pretty seaside town? She says:
‘I made the right choice – 100 per cent.’
As for The Sea House – can this distinct and unique accommodation be summed up in a few words?
‘It’s a holiday let tailored to discreet and tasteful holiday makers who want something comparable to a boutique hotel.’
